Why University-Prep Tutoring?
In short, I was more successful in high school and college than anyone I know. (Click here to view my transcripts.) This was not because I was a genius. More likely, it was because I always showed up on time, took great notes, began assignments immediately after receiving them, devoted many hours to exams and papers, communicated with professors, and engaged in all my classes. I can help give you the drive, confidence, understanding and follow-through to do the same thing.
Big tutoring companies charge large amounts and then field out the work to low paid “experts”--usually college kids–in a single area like “reading skills” or “geometry.” Rather than compartmentalizing your studies, we will look at the “big picture,” so to speak, while also developing the specific skills to thrive in each area of your coursework, writing and test-taking.
What is Holistic Tutoring?
My tutoring and mentoring include initial assessments, lesson plans, goal tracking procedures, communication plans, calendars to keep track of reaching goals and milestones, and accelerating learning to help students advance their knowledge.
When working individually with students it is first important to establish strengths, goals, needs, timetables, and a plan of action. But even more important is discovering a student’s passions and harnessing them! It is only by addressing the whole student, with all their unique accomplishments as well as foibles, that they will succeed in preparing for and attending college. It’s a matter of understanding where you are, where you are going, and how to get there.
I work individually, one-on-one with each student that approaches Academia, while occasionally sharing work with specialists in a certain area. Many students these days begin preparing for college success as early as the 6th or 7th grade, and I love working with students to identify and address strengths and weaknesses as early as possible. I have proven experience getting into my college of choice and succeeding there. This includes an Ivy League university, Big Ten and Pac Ten schools, as well as a very small university with only a handful of people and very limited resources.
